Chiropractor accused of inappropriate behavior

By Elias C. Arnold

A Goodyear chiropractor faces felony sex charges on suspicion of inappropriately touching and massaging two patients and a 17-year-old girl who worked in his office, police said Wednesday.

John J. Garfield, 43, was booked into Maricopa County Jail on Tuesday on suspicion of two counts of sexual abuse and one count of sexual conduct with a minor, Goodyear police said.

Police think some of the incidents took place at Mountainside Chiropractic, the Goodyear office where Garfield worked.

Court documents filed in Maricopa County Superior Court show the girl reported the suspect twice called her into an exam room at the clinic March 24.

According to the documents the suspect allegedly instructed the girl to apply lotion to his legs and genital area. He allegedly called her in a second time to show her how to do deep tissue massage, pulled down her pants, touched her between her legs and unfastened her bra.
