Winter Haven Chiropractor Arrested
By Robin Williams Adams
WINTER HAVEN | Dr. Jerald M. Jervis, a Winter Haven chiropractor whose state medical license was revoked in November, has been arrested on two counts of practicing without a license.
That's a third-degree felony punishable by up to five years in prison, the Department of Health said in announcing Jervis' arrest.
The department revoked Jervis' license to practice chiropractic medicine on Nov. 9, following the recommendation of the state Board of Chiropractic Medicine. Despite that action, DOH said, he continued to practice.
In February and March of this year, Jervis, 50, provided chiropractic treatment to a patient in his office and residence on East Lake Silver Drive Northeast in Winter Haven, DOH said. It said he charged the patient $50 for each chiropractic treatment.
The Winter Haven Police Department arrested him early last week and he was released on bail Wednesday, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office Web site. The DOH Unlicensed Activity Unit in Tampa worked with law enforcement in the investigation.
Jervis denies the charges, according to his lawyer, Christopher B. Roy of Winter Haven.
The Board of Chiropractic Medicine voted at its Nov. 2 meeting to revoke his license for failing to meet state requirements for providing information to the Department of Health. State officials said he also failed to comply with a previous order levied by the disciplinary board.
The board assessed him $11,572 in costs for investigating those charges.
