Chiropractor accused of sexual misconduct

By Karen Shideler

A petition alleging sexual misconduct was filed Wednesday against Andover chiropractor Terry Farney.

The Board of Healing Arts petition alleges that Farney inappropriately touched the genital areas of five patients who ranged in age from 11 to 50. The petition also alleges that Farney failed to produce records for four patients after being subpoenaed for them.

The petition, signed by associate counsel Dan Riley, asks that Farney's license "be revoked, or otherwise disciplined," standard language for a petition.

Farney Chiropractic Clinic is at 215 S. Andover Road.

A man who answered the phone at Farney's office said, "There probably will be no comment."

Gregory Young, Farney's attorney, was out of town Wednesday and said he hadn't seen the petition so had no comment on it.

Mark Stafford, general counsel for the board, said no timetable has been set in the case, but "I would expect the board to attempt to deal with that just as quickly as possible."

Most likely, he said, the board will take emergency temporary action, followed by a more detailed hearing later.

The Board of Healing Arts staff investigates complaints against those it oversees and proposes disciplinary action. The full board then conducts hearings on the petitions.

Stafford stressed that the petition contains allegations. "There have not been any findings made on this," though "there is a motion that requests immediate attention to the allegation."

The petition alleges that, as long ago as 1989 and as recently as July, Farney repeatedly and inappropriately touched patients "in the course of providing chiropractic evaluation and treatment."
