Misys Healthcare Systems Selected by Upper Ohio Valley IPA to Help Physicians Across 37 Practices Maintain More Accurate, Up-to-Date Data
Misys Solutions Will Help Improve Medical Care for Patients in Ohio and West Virginia
RALEIGH, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Misys Healthcare Systems, LLC, a market leader in healthcare IT, today announced that the Upper Ohio Valley Individual Practice Association (“The IPA”), a network of nearly 300 physicians across dozens of specialties who collectively own and run the organization, has selected Misys® solutions to enable its physician members to provide more efficient, accurate patient care to patients across four counties in Ohio and West Virginia. IPA physicians treat nearly thirty percent of residents in Brooke, Marshall and Ohio Counties in West Virginia, and Belmont County, Ohio.
The IPA will install specialty-specific Misys EMR® and Misys Tiger® across its independent physician practices. The two solutions integrate seamlessly into one platform, providing medical practices with numerous benefits, including improved access to up-to-date patient data, more accurate billing, insurance claims and reimbursements, and enhanced record-keeping and reporting. To further expedite the billing process – a challenge for many group practices – IPA member billing professionals will also implement technology from Payerpath®, a Misys company. This claims management solution enables medical office staff to electronically submit billing statements to various payers through Payerpath’s clearing house and manage remittance. Used in conjunction with Payerpath’s CodeCheck solution, physicians receive payments fast through improved coding and billing accuracy.
“Too often, larger entities drive the activity and administrative decision-making within physician practices. We wanted The IPA to make the choices that we felt are best for our community, and that includes selecting a vendor who could solve our challenges—Misys Healthcare Systems,” said Dr. James Comerci, president, Upper Ohio Valley IPA. “Misys solutions offer our medical practices many benefits both now and down the road. We hope that other healthcare institutions in the area, particularly the hospitals, will also choose to adopt this type of healthcare IT system so that we all can benefit from community-wide patient data sharing.”
Tangible Results with Misys Solutions
Physicians across the country are able to obtain real, substantial results thanks to their adoption of solutions from Misys Healthcare Systems. A Pittsburgh-area physician practice realized significant ROI after implementing Misys EMR:
- After two years:
- Eliminated chart and dictation costs
- Converted chart room into two exam rooms(will lead to increased revenue)
- Decreased claim denials and reimbursement turnaround time
- Physicians' work-life balance improved:
- 95 percent of charts completed during office visits
- 95 percent of work completed by 5 p.m.
- Remote access allows work to be completed from home
Community Involvement
As part of its community-oriented philosophy, The IPA has partnered with The National Technology Transfer Center, located at Wheeling Jesuit University in Wheeling, West Virginia. The NTTC will house the system servers and assist with technical support for IPA physicians.
“Working with physician groups such as The IPA is an integral part of Misys Healthcare Systems’ growth plan. These community groups recognize that adopting healthcare IT systems, particularly EMRs, is the first step in creating an interoperable healthcare system nationwide,” said Richard Atkin, president, Hospital Systems Business Unit, Misys Healthcare Systems. “The next step is for those practices and their health center partners to connect for real-time patient data sharing, a technology hurdle that Misys already addresses.”
The IPA chose the following Misys products for their reliability, ease-of-use and ability to install and integrate with current systems already at work within the various practices:
- Misys EMR is an electronic medical records (EMR) solution that enables physicians to capture and store patient information through interfaces that allow for integration with Radiology Information Systems (RIS), Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS), medical devices, transcription systems and other document repositories. Since each specialty has its own needs, IPA members will be implementing specialty-specific EMR systems from Misys.
- Misys Tiger is an integrated practice management solution designed to streamline front and back office workflow for small-to-medium sized physician practices. Key features include billing, insurance processing, patient reminders and numerous reporting options.
- Payerpath Claims Management is an interoperable, web-based solution for comprehensive revenue cycle management. Practices of all sizes use Payerpath to manage eligibility verification, claims creation, claims editing, claims submission, claims tracking, remittance processing and collections.
About Upper Ohio Valley IPA
The IPA (Individual Practice Association) is an organization of physicians (M.D., D.O., D.D.S) founded in 1979 to provide a network of medical specialties to managed care organizations.
This association, which consists of 296 physicians in 37 specialties, contracts with various HMO, PPO, PHP on behalf of these 296 physicians. In addition to negotiating fees for its physicians, the IPA also contracts for physician involvement in the management of its patients and the subscribers of the managed care organization. This therefore means the physicians are involved not only in the treatment of its patients, but by serving on various committees and board of directors of the health maintenance organization. They help to develop the protocol, policies and procedures for ordering tests, treating patients, disease management, immunology, hospital admission, out-patient surgery and out-patient testing. Physicians caring for their patients, and making medical decisions for the good of their patients is the prime objective of this organization.
